December 12,2006 – Raleigh, NC. Web cartoonists disrobe their creations for cancer charity calendar.
Webcomics and nudity--it had to happen sooner or later, and just last
month cartoonist Ryan Estrada was asked to design the cover of the very
first Nude Webcomic Calendar. Tastefully Done is a 12 month calendar
featuring nude versions of characters from up and coming webcomics by
15 different artists. It is now available for sale at Lulu.com
(http://www.lulu.com/content/369065), and all proceeds go toward cancer
research. This titillating creation, featuring tastefully nude
characters from webcomics like “HOUSD”(Ali Graham) and Sweden's own
“Little Gamers” (Pontus Madsen and Christian Fundin), is truly a
calendar with a cause.
All proceeds from Tastefully Done go to Cancer Research UK
(www.cancerresearchuk.org) –Britain’s leading cancer charity, and part
of the worldwide effort to find a cure for all forms of cancer. The
practice of bearing it all for charity was pioneered in the UK by the
Rylstone and District Women’s Institute--immortalized in the film
Calendar Girls--and the artists of Tastefully Done are proud to carry
on this fine tradition.
If the philanthropic cause behind the calendar doesn't tug at your
heart strings, then the variety pack of awesome talent will tug at
your... err, eye strings? “Each artist is different, each month is
different and that's the point.” says calendar organizer Mike
Rouse-Deane, of Webcomics in Print. "Why have a calendar filled with
the same artwork for each month?"
Tastefully Done, features work from Ryan Estrada, Chris Simmons, Rob
Coughler, Ram_n P_rez, Robert Koch, Rich Dachtera, Philip Spence,
Christian Fundin, Pontus Madsen, Bryan Chojnowski, Chris Jones, Charles
Woolbright, Gordon McAlpin, Ali Graham, and Ivan Pope. The art runs the
gamut from bunnies and monkeys (nude) to the attractive and cleverly
covered cast of “Multiplex” (Gordon McAlpin).
So if you have a hard to buy for friend who won't be impressed with
just another calendar of fuzzy-faced pets (not counting the occasional
nude monkey), this could be your ticket to the title of Best Present
Ever! Of course, these comics depicting antics from geriatric strip
poker to nude bus rides might not be for everyone. However, everyone
can agree that they are, at least, tasteful.
